Evesham Utd Ladies 3,
Leominster Tn 0
SUNDAY'S League Cup quarter-final tie finally went the way of the hosts but only after a young Leominster side had put up a terrific fight.
It was the visitors who took an early grip and United goalkeeper Mandy Upton had to react quickly in forcing a Town player to shoot wide in the fifth minute.
The visitors then spurned two more chances to open the scoring before United gradually came into the game and created their first real opportunity after 28 minutes when Amy Summers played in Sam Perry but her weak shot was easily saved.
Charlene McLoughlin fired wide three minutes later before a fine move started by Laura Westwood and continued by Lola Hughes saw Perry's eventual shot strike a post.
Evesham had another let-off the visitors continued to push forward but it was the Robins who broke the deadlock in first half stoppage-time.
Perry's shot was turned round a post by the goalkeeper and the resultant corner saw the ball fall for Stephanie Clements who netted.
United increased their lead midway through the second half after a surging run by Hughes set up Perry to fire a superb shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.
As visiting heads dropped, Lisa Tustin struck an upright and Perry headed just wide before United put the result beyond doubt five minutes from time.
Becky Handy's corner was headed back out for her to whip in a first time cross and McLoughlin's superbly timed run saw her stoop to place a fine header into the goal.
The winners return to league action on Sunday when they make the trip to Stourport to take on Burlish Olympic.
