Droitwich Spa 2 Himley Athletic 0
DROITWICH gave their relegation battle a shot in the arm by defeating bottom side Himley Athletic in the Midland Combination Division Two on Saturday.
The win made sure that Droitwich moved out of the bottom three and inched towards safety.
Spa started the game as the stronger side and edged ahead when Tom Sanders headed the ball in at the far post.
Droitwich had to resist growing Himley pressure and the loss of Roger Denby with a facial injury forced manager Tom Goss to reshuffle the side.
An injury to Mark Burrows, who twisted an ankle, caused more problems for Droitwich.
However, they managed to weather the storm and controlled the game in the second half.
Ian Cottrill was on hand to head the second goal from Andy Pheasant's free kick.
Spa continued to search for more goals, with Matt Jenkins and Stuart James both going close.
Droitwich will be aiming to move away from the danger zone on Saturday, February 4, when they take on Chelmsley Town at home (2.45pm kick off).
Saturday's opponents are only two places above fourth from bottom Droitwich.
