SIR - Ever since I can remember, I've been passionate about the environment. In 1999 I made the decision to devote myself to working full time within the environment sector. Through my work with various organisations, including environmental charity Global Action Plan and more recently presenting BBC 2's No Waste Like Home series, I've learnt to understand more and more just how important it is that we all start to make more energy-saving efforts in the UK.

It's a win-win situation all round and easy to do - it benefits the environment and of course it will save us all money. About £6bn worth of energy is currently wasted in homes in the UK every year. To put that into perspective, for every £3 we spend on heating our homes, we waste a £1. Shocking, isn't it?

So it's worth taking a look at how energy efficient your home is now. A good place to start is by completing the free online Energy Savers' Report on the British Gas energy saving website www.house.co.uk/waste - it will give advice and information on improvements you can start making now.
