EVESHAM Rowing Club's junior girls were on top form at last Sunday's Stourport Head of the River as they returned home with three wins and two second place finishes.
The girls, who are currently training for the Inter-Regional Championships in April, registered some fast times over the 4,500m course.
The coxed J15 quad of Tash Sym-onds, Sophie McDonagh, Ruth Why-man and Abi Penrose, coxed by Katie Catell, whizzed down the course in a time of 15 minutes and three seconds. Penrose also rowed in the women's J15 single scull event where her time of 17.17 put her in second place behind a Stourport competitor.
Chloe Bryan and Colleen Penrose, competing in the J14 double, overcame Stratford by 11 seconds in a time of 16.16 to claim another first place.
There was a win too for the J13 coxed quad comprising Jorden Par-sons, Danni Symonds, Aimee Ruther-ford, Holly Baskerville and cox Rachael Hegarty, whose time of 17.13 gave them the edge over another Evesham crew.
The club's J16 and 18 girls Emma Purfield, Becky Wood, Sara Howe and Chloe Farrar, rowed in the women's Senior III coxless quad event where they picked up second place - a good result against more experienced rowers.
The veteran men were also out in force as they claimed wins in a coxed four and a double.
Saturday saw the Junior 12 and 13 boys rowing at the Northampton Head of the Nene - one of few events where children of this age can compete.
The 1,900m course is rowed along a fairly straight piece of river, with a couple of slow bends that had some crews floundering in reed beds.
The J12 double of Robert Bonham and Lewis Giles rowed a time of 8.40 to finish well ahead of three crews from Northampton.
Bonham then teamed up with fellow J12s Andre Roberts, Will McLau-ghlin, Sam Casey and cox John Rowland to row in the coxed quad and overcome two home crews in a time of 9.10.
The J13 boys, most of whom have been rowing just a few months, put up a coxed quad, two doubles and a single scull but missed out on the wins at their first event away from Evesham.
Two veteran women were in action at Northampton where Tina Bonham and Teresa Roberts joined rowers from other clubs in composite crews that won the women's and mixed, coxless quad events.
Building work is on target to be completed by mid-April in time for the club's main event of the year - the annual Evesham Regatta set to be staged over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
