BROMSGROVE resident Ros Weston has been elected chairman of The English Ladies' Golf Association (ELGA).TOP BRASS: Roz Weston has been elected chairman of the English Ladies' Golf Association.
After many years of administration in club, county, and the Midlands, Ros' appointment follows two years as chairman of the ELGA rules and regulations committee.
Ros, who has been a member of Droitwich GC for 28 years, said she sees this as not only a tremendous personal honour, but also an honour for her club, being the first person rom it to achieve a honorary national administrative position.
After a superb year for ladies golf in England last year, she hopes that this success will encourage more young girls to come into the game.
"We are fortunate to have superb practice facilities in Bromsgrove and with many clubs in the area having good junior sections, I feel that Worcestershire could lead the way in girls' golf.
"I am hoping to visit as many clubs locally as possible and, with national events being held at Kings Norton and Kidderminster during the first week of August, there should be every opportunity for all lady golfers to feel part of their national association.
"Women's golf is growing in the number of players and the standard is improving.
"We're going big places. We've got big plans at the moment."
Ros is no stranger to golf administration. Her father was treasurer of The English Golf Union before becoming its president in 1971.
