A GENEROUS Midlands house builder has come to the rescue of a Redditch homeless charity.

KingsOak South Midlands donated 12 fire extinguishers, worth £200, to Nightstop following an appeal for safety equipment in the Advertiser.

The Ecumenical Centre-based charity provides emergency overnight accommodation for people aged 16-25 in the homes of volunteers. The group also helps young people find more permanent accommodation.

Nightstop spokesman Gill Groom said: "Many young people find it difficult adjusting to living independently so we offer advice on things like budgeting for household bills, life skills and maintaining their tenancy.

"But one of the biggest problems for young people is finding the money to pay for all the basics so we provide them with many of the items they'll need to get started such as cooking utensils, first-aid kits and smoke alarms. However, all this costs money.

"We're delighted KingsOak has been able to donate enough of these to equip all of the young people we currently have on our books."

KingsOak sales director Alison Tindle said: "We are very pleased to be able to assist Nightstop in this way and help support this vulnerable group of people."
