RESIDENTS are being invited to help as watchdogs at a Tardebigge Prison.
The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at Hewell Grange Prison is looking for people to help in its work ensuring prisoners are treated fairly.
Vivien Mackenzie, chairman of the IMB at the category D men's open prison, said: "In effect, members are the eyes and ears of the Home Secretary and of the public."
She said they visited the prison on a rota system to talk to prisoners and staff, as well as inspecting the premises.
Anyone wishing to help does not need any special qualifications but should be at least 18 years old and live within 20 miles of the prison. Training is provided and although it is unpaid, expenses are covered.
More details are available from the IMB Secretariat, 2nd Floor, Ashley House, 2 Monck Street, London, SW1P 2BQ, 0870 267 8149, or imb@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
