GLUM Andy Preece was unhappy with Worcester City's performance following Saturday's 1-1 Nationwide North draw against Workington at St George's Lane.
City looked on course to chalk up three successive victories when striker Mark Danks maintained his rich vein of form with the opening goal before half-time.
But slack defending allowed the mid-table Cumbrians to nick a soft leveller with 20 minutes to go and the adventurous visitors could well have stolen victory late on.
Earlier in the game, City wasted opportunities as they strived to make certain of three points, but player-manager Preece believes that would have been harsh on Workington.
"I'm disappointed and frustrated. I don't think we played as well as we can and as well as we have been playing," said Preece. "It was not a great team performance.
"We missed one or two opportunities, but they had as many opportunities as us. I don't think we defended as well as we have done. A draw was no more than Workington deserved.
"From 1-0, after going against the wind and up the slope, we should have been able to take it on.
"We had a couple of chances. Adam Webster hit the post and that could have been game over.
"There were one or two other opportunities, but Workington looked dangerous all game and they got through us too easily. That is not like us. We were a bit open at the back at times.
"I'm just disappointed because we were on a good run. We are still on a good run, but that performance was not what I expected or wanted.
"I felt we were just starting to get a great deal of momentum. We've still got momentum going, but to make a big impact, we really needed to win that game.
"We could have been a lot better, not just at the back but all over the field. If we had done that, we would have won the game."
Striker Danks took his tally to three goals in three matches following his move from Forest Green Rovers.
Preece admits that the 21-year-old's confident finish proved to be one of game's few positive points. "Mark did well for his goal, it was a great finish. He's now got three in three for us and I hope that will continue," he added.
