NEW headteacher Alec Holland wants to help Upton CE Primary School build on its successful and friendly reputation.
He took over on January 1, replacing Mark Mumby who has become a schools inspector after nine years at Upton.
Mr Holland has more than 30 years' teaching experience including work in Germany and Gibraltar. Before moving to Upton, he was headteacher at Offenham CE First School near Evesham.
"Obviously no two schools are the same but hopefully I can bring some of my experience and help this school develop even further," said Mr Holland.
"Everyone here has been very welcoming and the children are delightful and have made me feel very at home."
Mr Holland wants the school to offer the children every possible opportunity to learn and develop.
"Every child should be given the opportunity to achieve to the highest level they possibly can," he said.
Mr Holland believes specialist instruction is an important part of education and was pleased to accompany a group of Year 6 children to the Malvern Hills Outdoor Centre during his first week in charge.
"Using the local community and environment can be of great benefit to the children's education," he said. "The trip to Malvern was a lovely opportunity to get to know and work with the students.
