I am incensed by the state of Castlemorton Common in the area of Hancocks Lane, which is an SSSI.
Over the winter, it seems as farm land is so wet the best possible place to turn out cattle is on the common. I do sympathise with farmers, but do not understand why the situation is made far worse by feeding cattle where the public walk and use the common for recreational purposes. The mess cattle and tractors make on this single track has to be seen to be believed.
I understand part of the commoners' rights with livestock is that they are fed in areas away from those frequented by walkers and such. If this is not the case, then I feel it should be.
I must also say how frustrating it is walking a dog, as cattle with suckling calves are very protective. I have been forced to let my dogs go on more than one occasion to enable me and my dogs to escape the charge.
I have been present at meetings with residents of Castlemorton Common when this matter has been discussed but alas nothing has happened, in fact, I feel it is getting worse.
Come on conservators, get this sorted out and let's all enjoy the common.
Tim Roberts, Hancocks Lane, Castlemorton Common.
