LEDBURY darts professional Terry Jenkins showed some of his best form to get through to the final of the inaugural Stan James Players Championship in Gibraltar.

In an evenly-matched final, Jenkins was edged out 3-2 by Yorkshire's Dennis Priestley, who collected a cheque for £5,000 and 20 world ranking points.

Jenkins picked up 16 ranking points, moving him up one place to the world's number 14 spot, and the runner-up cheque for £2,500.

The Herefordshire thrower had played brilliantly throughout the competition, breezing through the early rounds with wins against George Fredrick (3-0), Sean Palfrey (3-1) and Alan Caves (3-0).

In the fourth round, Jenkins overcame highly-rated Wayne Mardle ((3-0) leading to a quarter-final victory over up-and-coming Droitwich player Dave Honey ((3-1).

In his semi-final, Jenkins enjoyed one of the best wins of his professional career when he defeated world number one Colin Lloyd (3-2).

Jenkins said: "I was chuffed to get to the final, but it was more about the people I beat on the way to it.

"I beat Wayne (Mardle) and Colin (Lloyd), who are both top players, and I was very happy with that.

"I now have Dennis (Priestley) in my sights in the world rankings. If he had not won the tournament I would have gone above him."
