MANOR Park Pumas continued their relentless march towards the Brewin Dolphin Securities sponsored Malvern Table Tennis League division two title by coming from behind to beat Travellers.
Bob Atyeo's win against Jon Dyke and Martin Snee's victory over Dave Hallam (Dave's second defeat of the season) gave Travellers a 2-1 lead but from then Pumas took over, although three games required a fifth set. Nick Price led the way with three victories.
Ledbury Lions strengthened their promotion hopes but were made to fight all the way by bottom team Manor Park Crackpots. Gordon Stables suffered only his second defeat of the season. Richard Smith his fourth against Richard Cullis and Stephen Lindner respectively but each won their other two singles games and were well backed up by Bill Asmith who was on loan from third division team Maulers. Bill beat Ed Palmer in a very tight four set encounter 12-10, 9-11, 13011, 15-14. The doubles proves crucial with Gordon and Richard S edging out Ed and Richard C in the fifth set.
Crackpots E are now third and in Paul Coleman have the only unbeaten player in the division. He was well supported in the matches with Bromyard and Uckinghall by Dave Steen with five wins and James Palmer with two.
Bromyard came close to salvaging a point when Derek Craddock and Chris Daniels took James and Paul to a fifth set in the doubles. For Uckinghall, Peter Nash was in good form winning twice with a win apiece for Peter Quy and Roger Davies.
John Hunt made a welcome return for Bromyard Logics versus YMCA Vulcans beating Chris Hughes and Beryl Shammon. Tommy Williams also beat Beryl but those were the only wins for Bromyard as Vulcans clinched a 7-3 victory with Jim Ahern winning all his games plus the doubles with Chris Daniels.
RESULTS: Manor Park Travellers 2, Manor Park Pumas 8; Manor Park Crackpots 4, Ledbury Lions 6; Uckinghall 4, Crackpots E 6; Crackpots E 9, Bromyard Logics 1; Bromyard Logics 3, YMCA Vulcans 7.
