THE fast-growing Malvern Joggers fielded nine members in last Sunday's Not the Roman IX road race at Stratford.
It was Gary Payne (George Elliot Striders) who won the 12k (7.5 miles) race after leading the field of over 600 from the gun. His time of 40.12 was 43 seconds faster than second-placed David Bell of Nottingham University AC.
An impressive run by the talented Sue Harrison (Leamington AC) saw her cross the line in fifth place in a time of 42.45
The Joggers' first man home was Jon Newey, who took the icy and foggy conditions in his stride to record a time of 43.50. This was good enough for 11th place.
Not far behind was Andy Blannin in 70th place with 49.14.
The first of the Joggers' two ladies in the event was Julie Caseley, who is now preparing for the London Marathon. Her time of 1.03.06 was nearly five minutes faster than a below-par Sam Hammond.
Other Joggers' times: Andy Galagher 55.54, Jerry Greer 56.05, Eric Bromage 56.16, Peter Tooke 58.38, Paul Bullman 58.42.
Malvern Joggers meet every Wednesday at 7pm at Dyson Perrins School. Runs for all, from beginners to experts.
