POWICK ran out comfortable winners but the scoreline hides a disjointed performance in this Worcester Sunday League division one game.
OWICK 4, THE BRIDGE 0
Powick settled into the stride and began trying to get the ball down and pass but, having failed to open up the visitors defence in the first 20 minutes, became slack and their play lacked fluency. Despite holding the upper hand, chances were few and far between and Powick began to lose their shape. Steve Turberfield ploughed a lonely farrow up front for The Bridge and continued to be a useful outlet for the visitors, who despite being under pressure were coping well.
Drinkwater, Harvey, Henderson, Fish and Hart all saw a sight of goal, but, with the half-time whistle in their ears, Powick stuttered into the break.
Galvanised by their failings in the first half Powick began the second period in a brighter manner and the upping of the tempo brought rewards when clever inter-play between Fish and Drinkwater saw the former crash the ball into the net following a powerful run.
The second goal soon came following a neat turn and shot from Lee Henderson which proved too much for the visiting goalkeeper. He spilled the ball into the path of Dean Drinkwater, who made no mistake.
The game then became sloppy and The Bridge looked dangerous on the counter attack but Drinkwater struck his second to give Powick a cushion that once more settled nerves.
A tremendous Steve Davis save from a great strike from a Bridge player saw the clean sheet preserved and with ten minutes left Stu Harvey netted the final goal with a trademark header.
Three welcome points keeps the pressure on league leaders Bedwardine.
