Health-conscious students at Worcester College of Technology are trying to help city centre shoppers and visitors to quit smoking. Four second-year students reading health studies put up a display in Worcester's Crowngate shopping centre and were on hand to provide information about the effects of smoking - particularly on pregnant women and children. The health promotion project is part of their National Diploma in Health Studies and all the students are hoping to go on to become health care professionals such as nurses and midwives.
Course tutor Lynne Blandford, who was on hand to observe their efforts, said: "They set it all up themselves and I think they did a brilliant job. It does help to raise people's awareness and if we get people to think about giving up smoking it is a good thing. Quite a few people were asking about passive smoking."
