A DAY of street art and dance workshops is on offer at Malvern to give young people an opportunity to find out more about hip-hop.

The event ties in with a new hip-hop production TAG... Me vs The City and has two types of workshop, one on street art and the other on breakdancing.

They will be held on Saturday, February 4, and the show is on stage in the Forum Theatre the following Saturday.

Worcester-based artist Marko Stankovitch will teach the background, philosophies and roots of street art before giving young people the chance to create large pieces of art using spray paint. The pieces will be displayed in the theatre prior to the performance of TAG... Me vs The City. The workshop, at Malvern Theatres, is suitable for 13-18 year olds and is being held from 10am-noon and again from 1pm-3pm. Numbers are limited to 10 per session.

Aimed at beginners and enthusiastic amateurs, there's also a breakdancing workshop led by 2FaCeD dance company. For 8-10 year olds there is a session from 10am-11.30am taking place at Malvern Theatres, then a beginners' session from noon to 2pm and an intermediate session from 3pm-5pm, both at Malvern Youth Centre. Numbers are limited to 20 per session.

Each workshop costs £6 and includes a ticket to see TAG... Me vs The City on Saturday, February 11. 2FaCeD dance company will be giving a free demonstration in the Foyer at 7pm prior to the performance.

TAG...Me vs The City is a groundbreaking new dance theatre production choreographed and directed by one of the most recognised faces of hip-hop, Jonzi D. The production follows the life of a brilliant but obsessive graffiti writer desperate to challenge authority in the only way he knows how, with his spray can. Working with a company of six dancers TAG explores the concept of "physical calligraphy" using the body as paint. The result is a show which seamlessly fuses break-dancing, body popping, emceeing, turntablism and graffiti art with pure dance theatre.

Workshop tickets and tickets for TAG on February 11 (£10 and £12; under 25s £8) can be booked through the Malvern Theatres Box Office on 01684 892277.

The project is supported by Malvern Youth Centre and Worcestershire County Council.
