WYRE Forest youngsters were treated to a day of thrills and spills at the area's first Xtreme Sports Festival.

Pupils from 11 middle schools got to try their hand at skateboarding, roller-blading and riding BMX bikes during the event at the Glades Arena.

Organiser Mandy Sylvester said it was part of the Key Stage 3 Schools Sport Coordinator Programme aimed at encouraging pupils to get involved in physical activities.

"It's the first time we've done it and it's a new way of getting

children to take up sport and an active lifestyle.

"Not everybody enjoys conventional sports and team games that they normally do at schools so this is a fun alternative for them to keep fit and healthy."
