WHAT are Stourport & District Youth Football League trying to do to young people?
Having managed about 10 founder member teams (Lickhill Colts) in this league - then called Stourport & District Under-14 League - back in 1974-75, I felt very sad to read your report about the ban on high scores.
In those days lads of nine, 10 and 11 were playing others of up to 14 years and were proud of it. It was all part of their development and learning about life.
In the first year I had some eight or nine players in the 10-11 years age range, winning only two games - in fact, if they lost in single figures, they thought they had won!
They loved to see the reports in the local press.
The most important thing was that all the adversity helped to develop "team spirit."
This team spirit helped those original players to stick together and four years later - in their final year - they won the league.
The current ban imposed by the league does make me angry and makes me wonder if the people who have made these decisions know what an unfortunate laughing stock they are making of these youngsters.
Good luck in any move to encourage these sad officials to change their minds.
