FURIOUS Badsey homeowners are up in arms over a planning application they say could knock up to a million pounds off the value of their homes.
The applicant Michael Pilade, of Twyford Bank in Evesham submitted an application to Wychavon District Council to build a caravan park with on-site car parking for up to 76 vehicles.
Henry Wisniewski of Hither Green, Badsey is objecting to the 38 caravans being built opposite his home.
In a letter to the council Mr Wisniewski said: "I like many others, paid a premium price to move out of town as was assured by your department that the land opposite my property was not suitable for development prior to my purchase. I can see no benefit to either the immediate homeowners who will stand to lose approximately a million pounds collectively on devalued house prices. If I wanted to live in a built up area, I could have stayed in town!"
Mr Wisniewski has warned that if this application is given the go-ahead he will seek compensation from the district council reflecting the decrease in value to his house. He also insisted on having half of his council tax refunded, on the grounds of casual tenancy adjacent to his property.
This objection is one of many expressed by residents at Hither Green, many who have also raised concerns over the level of noise this project would create if approved by the council.
Matt Norman, of Greenleys, Badsey believes his privately owned property will loose money in its value if 38 static caravans is all he can see when he looks out of his window.
"I strongly object to this proposal as my property will overlook the development. I've no desire to look out of my window to see 38 caravan homes and listen to the extra noise that this site will produce in an area that's relatively quiet." Mr Pilade's is currently in Italy and was unavailable for comment but his agent, Mr Scimeca, of ADS Architecture and Design Studio of Twyford Lane, Evesham said the 38 caravans would not be a problem for residents in Badsey as they the occupants would be over the age of 45. A decision over the application will be made in six weeks time.
