EVESHAM lost a high-scoring Coaching Solutions West Midlands Premier encounter with Stone 6-4.
They could have won the game but failed to capitalise on Walsall's shaky defence with the score at 3-3.
Player-manager Martin Husbands said: "That's possibly the best we've played this season and we defended really well.
"Yet we've conceded six goals and lost the game. I think a draw would have been a fair result."
Fielding their strongest line-up of the season, Evesham started confidently and managed to keep possession of the ball well.
But Walsall opened the scoring against the run of play from a well-worked short corner and extended their lead from a similar scenario.
Evesham hit back from the restart through the excellent Mark Brown on his return after a six-month absence.
Although Evesham dominated, the visitors managed to slip a third past helpless Guy Cassey, despite good defensive work from Ben Brown and James Tickle.
Following good passing from Matt Baumber and Seb Seneque, Martin Husbands scored with a penalty after Stuart Bearcroft was brought down.
Baumber equalised shortly before the break from close range.
In the second-half, Husbands' second penalty rebounded off the bar and the hosts looked vulnerable at set-pieces.
Stone scored two goals in quick succession from well-placed short corners before Ben Brown pulled one back in the last few minutes to ensure a thrilling climax.
With only two minutes remaining, the otherwise excellent and industrious John Vickery missed a chance to snatch a last-gasp equaliser before Stone again converted a short corner in the dying seconds.
