VALE of Evesham-based Bomford Turner Ltd has donated a tractor to help a Romanian farm.
The Massey Ferguson tractor has been sent to Oat Farm, which was set up by the Faure-Alderson Romanian Appeal.
The tractor was handed over by Geoffrey Davies, managing director of Bomford Turner, who explained that the Oat Farm was in North Eastern Romania, 20 miles from Suceava, the capital city of the county of Suceava, where the first FARA children's home was established.
"The farm is about 60 acres and has three main enterprises," he said. "First there is a small dairy herd whose milk it is hoped will be turned into cheese and yoghurts. Secondly, there is a wide range of vegetables, some in poly tunnels but many on field scale. The third enterprise is growing fruit and herbs."
Apart from supplying the two children's homes in Suceava and Bucharest, produce will be marketed locally. Suceava is the fruit and vegetable centre for Romania and the city boasts a large wholesale fruit market.
"With so many enterprises, the farm needed a versatile tractor that can both plough and subsoil and carry out crop work," Mr Davies said.
