SENIOR citizens in Wyre Forest look set to see the lower age limit for car parking permits reduced to 60 for both men and women.

The recommendation will be put forward at a Wyre Forest District Council cabinet meeting tonight.

The council had previously standardised the lower age limit for men and women from 65 and 60, respectively, to 63 for both sexes.

James Dudley, cabinet member responsible for economics and regeneration, felt, however, the policy could potentialy disadvantage people who retired at 60 with no other employment.

They would be forced to purchase full season tickets or use the standard pay and display machines.

The problem was highlighted when users of Stourport Sports Centre sent a covering letter and petition to the council last month, after charges were implemented last October.

Councillor Dudley said: "The previous administration split the difference and made the lower age limit for issuing senior citizens' car parking permits to 63.

"However, I am now recommending that the age is lowered to 60 for both men and women, meaning more people would qualify for the pass."

The matter will be discussed tonight and a decision will be made at a full council meeting being held on March 1.
