Shipston 6, Evesham U-10 6pts

SUPPORTERS of both sides were treated to an excellent demonstration of competitive rugby.

At the first scrum, Aaron Parkes, Adam Johnson and Alex Tarplee showed great skill when faced with the larger Shipston forwards and, throughout the game, they produced a solid base from which scrum-half Jack Witts gave the ball to centres Ben Sherwood, Sam Waller and Mathew Camp.

Evesham opened their account with Camp showing his pedigree by collecting the ball in open play and driving to the try line.

Shipston were stung into action and responded with two swift scores.

Michael Harris played an important link at fly-half and floated a pass to winger Jack Gillet who linked with speedster Thomas Heneghan who showed great agility to open his tally.

Tackling from Alex Tarplee, Aaron Parks and James Williamson then led to Heneghan crossing the Shipston line on two more occasions.

However, the hosts weren't finished and punished frailties in Evesham's defensive line to take a 5-4 lead.

This passage of competitive play spurred the backs into action as Witts recovered the ball from inside his own half to produce a determined score.

A Shipston winger instantly produced a fine solo effort but replacement and player of the match Joe Beirns was in inspired form with try saving tackles before landing a last minute solo try to level matters.
