WE at Wychbold Swan Rescue are shocked and saddened at the threat of closure of Arrow Valley Countryside Centre.
Having worked with the staff since it opened some years ago, we have first-hand knowledge of their dedication and caring to both wildlife and the community at large.
They have improved the habitat through:
l Bird platforms on large island for resting, ducks, waders and swans.
l Both lake and small islands have been planted with reeds which provides nesting sites for birds and spawning for fish.
l Trees have been laid in the water for nesting grebes and coots. Four pairs of grebes nested in 2005, producing 15 young.
l They have controlled the Canada geese population through humane methods.
l They have a full diary of events and activities for all members of the community, young and old and particularly families.
l Fishing is policed by the staff and rules and regulations are made to be adhered to, minimising any adverse effect upon wildlife.
Everyone can enjoy the centre and it should be promoted as it is surely one of the best and most successful amenities the council has to offer.
