A BATCHLEY hair technician has been awarded £2,267 after the salon which employed her failed to pay her full wages.

Lindsey Greenhouse, of Cedar View, was awarded the money at a Birmingham employment tribunal against Redditch's Kingfisher Centre branch of Toni & Guy.

Miss Greenhouse, who started at the salon as a hair stylist and then became a technician specialising in hair colouring, was claiming compensation for the unlawful deduction of wages.

She said the salon agreed to pay her £180 a week plus commission but there was no written agreement confirming the amount.

"I was told that if I brought in £1,000 a week from customers I would get £100 commission," said Miss Greenhouse, who started working for the salon in June 2004.

"But after a time I realised I was not receiving the amounts I was entitled to."

Miss Greenhouse said she became pregnant in January last year and now has a baby daughter. She said she was still employed by the salon and still on maternity leave.

Tribunal chairman Jill Kelly said the tribunal's decision was that Miss Greenhouse had not been paid the wages she was entitled to.

She had put her grievance to the salon management but no meeting had been arranged to discuss it, said Miss Kelly.

She said Miss Greenhouse had been underpaid by £959. She awarded Miss Greenhouse the money plus an uplift of 20 per cent, making the amount £1,199.

"I am also awarding a further amount of £1,068, making the full total £2,267," said Miss Kelly.

Corinna Ferguson, representing Miss Greenhouse, made a claim for costs against the salon which Miss Kelly rejected.

Miss Greenhouse said after the hearing that she was delighted with the outcome and would continue working at the salon.
