THERE was an evening of nostalgia on January 10 with Drainpipe Trousers to Rock'n' Roll, a talk and slideshow by Graham Sutherland.
It covered everything and anything about the transformation of society from the end of the Second World War into the 1950s.
National Service, including the TA, H-bombs, the start of slum clearance after the bombings, to the big events such as the Festival of Britain, the Queen's coronation celebrations in 1953 and the beginning of television.
How tastes were changing in furnishings and fashion, hence the drainpipe trousers!
Encouraging us to save with the start of National Savings Books but also parting with our money through the pressures of advertising, how many groceries you could buy with the pound in your pocket. And don't forget to scrub your doorstep!
Sheila Tate won the raffle.
