SIR - I agree with your correspondent regarding walking and cycling. People are safer and healthier up to a point - but they would be a lot safer if drivers reverted to the practice of signalling their turns. In Worcester, the majority does this only if there is another motorist approaching them from behind or in front. Other road-users have to guess.
Even when signals are given, the driver has often already started his (it's always men, in my experience) turn, rendering the signal useless.
