MALVERN Town U16s played Littleton Juniors U16s in this exciting Mercian Festival Junior League fixture at Victoria Park.

MALVERN TOWN U16s 2, LITTLETON JUNIORS U16s 1

The first-half started with both teams having shots on goal in the first 15 minutes, Ryan Mansbridge and Ollie Mason both shot wide for Malvern and Ricky Buckland had a shot saved on six minutes. After a Joe Blain bicycle-kick went wide and John Griffiths shot over the bar, Littleton began to put the pressure on and on 23 minutes hit the side netting. On 36 minutes they took the lead with a goal from J Kerr, making the half-time score 0-1.

The second-half started very positively for Malvern Town when they very nearly scored from the kick-off and on 22 minutes a free-kick from Josh Brentnall was just tipped over the cross-bar by the keeper. Two minutes later the scores were level with a goal from Ashley Brown. Both teams battled hard for the winner and it was Malvern who made the breakthrough in the dying minutes with a goal from Ryan Mansbridge making the final score 2-1.

AFC WORCESTER 2, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U13s 6

AFTER a break of some six weeks the Juniors took sometime to overcome a determined AFC Worcester side.

On a large pitch with a strong wind blowing straight down the ground Juniors played neat and attractive football to counter the elements. They created a host of early chances but failed to convert whilst Worcester clearances were sailing behind the Juniors defence and required some excellent sweeping by keeper Freeman to avert the danger. Juniors took a deserved lead with a tremendous team goal. Starting from the left back position a series of one-twos took play to the edge of the Worcester box and a slipped pass set Turner free and he netted with ease. The lead was soon doubled when Bridges was left unmarked in the penalty area and the full-back gleefully smashed home. Juniors then wasted several chances and paid the penalty by conceding two goals late in the half. The long clearance was the Juniors undoing, firstly Moore out-sprinted the defence to slot home and Sadler did exactly the same to bring Worcester level.

With all of the elements in the Juniors favour for the second-half, they laid siege on the Worcester goal. Every clearance was coming straight back and only last ditch defending, excellent goalkeeping and woeful shooting kept the scores level. The breakthrough eventually came with a screaming Watling volley that flew into the net. Still Juniors pressed and they doubled their lead when Carlen pounced on a loose ball to fire home. Bannister was on hand to knock home Roskam's cross and Morton curled a ball into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.

Man-of-the-match was Mike Roskams

LEIGH 7 BRANSFORD BADGERS U10s 0, DROITWICH SPA ANGELS U10s 2

THIS match was a double header which meant the teams had to play each other twice, with the Badgers losing both games 2-0.

The first game started with the Badgers on top and pushing forward, coming close on a couple of occasions. Fred Van Vuren, Daniel Roberts and Joe Davies all came close, while Oliver Harcombe and Daniel Watson were solid in defence. It was very much against the run of play that the badgers ended the half two down, due to two own goals. The second half was a more even affair, with Nicholas Snowdon making some good saves to keep the score at 2-0.

The second game kicked off ten minutes after the first one had finished. Defensively the Badgers were very solid, with Nicholas Snowdon making one outstanding save before Droitwich took the lead. After this the Badgers weathered a lot of pressure from Droitwich. In the second half the Badgers got more into the match with Charlie Wilce and Daniel Roberts going close. Droitwich got their second goal right at the death. The team played very well against a team much higher in the league than them.

Performance of the week was by Oliver Harcombe

WELLAND U9s 3, NEWTOWN COLTS U9s 0

NEWTOWN found it hard going against a tall strong Welland side.

In the first-half Welland created some excellent chances but could not beat Colts' goalkeeper Elliott Crump, who pulled off some superb saves. Anders Wilson was always a threat to the Welland defence. The scoreline remained goalless at the interval and that was mainly due to Fraser Crump at the heart of the Colts' defence.

The second-half was much the same with Welland pushing for the opener with Newtown battling bravely. The deadlock was finally broken and so were the Colts' hearts and two more goals followed straight after.
