ANCHOR Falcons turned in one of their worst performances of the season on Sunday when they were well beaten by Perowne Park Rangers at Pitchcroft.
PEROWNE PARK RANGERS 7, ANCHOR FALCONS 3
With 16 games left in which to preserve their division two status, Falcons need to improve rapidly to avoid relegation, just one season after being promoted.
Anchor are close to signing several new players and will have to shore up a leaky defence before having any chance of moving up the table, a point emphasised in the second-half of this match as poor defending saw Rangers score six goals after the break.
With several players unavailable Will Hale continued in goal, Andy Fletcher in defence and Jon Hale as a makeshift centre forward.
In the first-half Falcons competed well, falling behind to an early strike, but then composing themselves and giving Rangers something to think about. Falcons even created a couple of half-chances but shots from John Goode and Paul Park didn't trouble the home goalkeeper.
After the break the floodgates opened as Anchor were continually pulled apart, and goals seemed to occur every time Rangers attacked. Despite this, Will Hale made a series of fine saves and blocks. Anchor did manage to pull a couple of goals back through Paul Park. In midfield man-of-the-match Mark Berry contested every challenge with determination but too often those around him were a yard off the pace. With the score at 7-2 Anchor scored a third through Jon Hale's stooping header from Park's pinpoint cross.
Sunday's game is at Barbourne Celtic.
