IN a hard-fought match played in a good spirit, Colwall Women's Hockey Club drew with second-placed Yate and South Gloucester to maintain their position at the top of Severn division one.
YATE & SOUTH GLOS 3, COLWALL 3
Colwall started well, and had several chances, but were unable to convert these into goals. Yate went ahead with a goal from a short corner, and then consolidated their lead with goal from open play. Nicky Glover and Coral Handley were unlucky not to score when their shots hit the goal post, and Colwall went into the half-time break 2-0 down.
Colwall opened their account in the second-half when Glover's shot was saved by the keeper, and Halligan was on hand to hook the ball home.
Colwall's second came from a cross by Coral Handley which was deftly deflected past the keeper by Halligan. Yate went ahead again from a penalty flick, but Colwall came back to level when the keeper saved and Jackie Styles cleverly extracted the ball from the resulting melee and lifted it into the net.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Colwall play Hereford at the Ledbury Leisure Centre at 2pm.
