WORCESTERSHIRE MP Peter Luff has launched an independent inquiry into the Government's role in the collapse of MG Rover.
The chairman of the Trade and Industry Select Committee has decided to go ahead with a probe regardless of a Government inquiry. It will study the parts played in the decline of Longbridge by former trade and industry secretaries Stephen Byers and Patricia Hewitt.
The committee will also look at the effectiveness of the recovery package and taskforce for the workforce.
Mr Luff had planned to wait until the completion of the Department of Trade and Industry's offical inquiry, to save going over the same ground. But instead of reporting this summer, as expected, the inquiry will take several years.
