PEOPLE from Worcester have helped the owner of an 80-year-old classic car begin to piece together
its history.
Alan Smith, from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, bought the 1926 Buick open tourer from an auction after it had stood decaying in a barn for more than 50 years.
The car enthusiast appealed to residents through the Worcester News to help him find out more about the vehicle as it was first registered in Worcester as new.
Since the appeal, Mr Smith has had calls from residents that have helped shed light on the car's fascinating history.
He said: "I knew the name of the owner who first registered it but I had calls telling me his full name was William Joseph Verrender of Bellevue, 77 Droitwich Road, Worcester in 1927 and 1928."
One woman also called Mr Smith to let him know she remembers seeing the Buick go past her school in 1926 and that it belonged to a Dr Russell from Bromyard.
Mr Smith - who is set to restore the car to its former glory over the next few years - said: "I am pleased with the response and I will research further into the information.
"I would now love to hear from any relatives of the people mentioned to find out more about the kind of people they were and the journeys the car may have been on."
