COUNCILLORS are looking to extend the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens in Bewdley.
Wyre Forest District Council leader and Bewdley town councillor, Stephen Clee, is working with Worcestershire county councillor, John Campion, to explore the possibility of an extension to incorporate an area of wasteland.
Mr Clee said: "We have a large area of land to the rear of the gardens that is sat doing nothing at the moment.
"We have an opportunity to develop this land and extend it into the gardens themselves through a working agreement and subject to planning permission.
"I am very pleased that the county council and Wyre Forest District Council are talking at last about this land."
Worcestershire County Council owns the land and Mr Clee said he would be negotiating a rent agreement with the authority.
He added: "The QEII gardens are Bewdley's hidden gardens. They are maintained and looked after by Wyre Forest District Council.
"The wasteland if incorporated into the garden will add an additional 20 per cent to the overall area of public open space and be an excellent extension to the public amenity."
Bewdley mayor, Liz Davies, said: "The Jubilee Gardens are a wonderful facility and if there is a way of enhancing it then let's go for it."
