BROADWAY'S first supermarket will open its doors to the public next month - and it will be good news for local producers.
The new Budgens store has linked up with more than 30 of them to help supply a wide range of food and drink to the local community.
The new supermarket, which has been designed to blend into the area around The Russells, is independently owned by local businessman Guy Warner.
It is also patriotic. The sponsor of British Food Fortnight for the past two years has not sold a single French apple or pear since France banned British beef.
All its own label fresh meat and poultry is 100 per cent British and fully farm assured and the company also supports UK sugar producers. It was the first supermarket to support the National Farmers' Union Red Tractor Promises scheme, which helps consumers identify home-grown products.
In addition to an in-store bakery offering freshly-baked bread all day, local firm Bread & Co will supply speciality breads.
There is also a deli counter with products from family firm Newitts, which markets award-winning hams, bacon, pies, home-made pates, pasties and deli salads.
Mrs Warner said: "I'm immensely excited about opening my first Budgens here in Broadway.
"Budgens is a real champion of independent retailing, delivering a superb range of fresh foods six days a week.
"We offer a genuine alternative to out-of-town superstores and we aim to offer our customers the highest levels of personal and friendly service."
