A GROUP of young people in a Vale village has won a prestigious award for its attempts to improve life for all youngsters in the village.
Its efforts are due to be recognised tonight with the presentation of a Tryangle Award from Worcestershire County Council youth service for citizenship and environment.
The group has been working for some time to identify the lack of facilities in Honeybourne and look at ways of improving life for themselves and others,
Presentations to the villages "movers and shakers" and to government representatives followed more than six months of weekly meetings as they explored what urban facilities could be adapted within the village.
One of its main achievements to date has been the decision to open a drop-in centre where youngsters in the village can meet in safety. Volunteers have now started a village youth club.
Club secretary Angela Herbert said: "These youngsters have put an enormous effort into improving village life for all the teenagers in the village.
"As a result of their hard work and commitment a couple of adults in the village have opened a youth club and are currently in the process of trying to open a drop-in centre for teenagers in order to provide a safe environment for the youth of the village to meet and socialise.
"These adults have successfully put in a bid for funding."
Mrs Herbert said the group, which until earlier this month included her son Andy who has just joined the Army, at first numbered 17 but settled down into a group of a dozen.
The youngsters were due to be presented with their award at Worcester Rugby Club at Sixways tonight.
