Phoenix Hereford Ladies 0
Redditch VC Women 1
REDDITCH VC turned the formbook upside down with this thoroughly deserved victory against the league leaders.
Phoenix went into the game with a 100 per cent league record but VC were always a threat going forward and some good through balls from Nat Lawrence and Emily Johnson nearly set up Jenna Dedicoat in the early stages.
The goal came midway through the first half. Lawrence picked out Dedicoat with a fine through ball and, with the home defence looking for offside, she slotted home at the second attempt.
VC then came under pressure but the defence of Jenny Ward, Ellen Branagh, Tara Cook and Livia Turton denied them with some fine defending.
At the other end, Claire Compton was unlucky not to get a penalty when she was clearly brought down in the area.
Studley were beaten 3-2 at home by Birmingham University. Rosy Hughes netted Studley's first with substitute Rachel Hopkins netting the other late on when he shot was deflected past the keeper.
Headless Cross Ladies lost 3-0 at home to Southam United, a match that saw them reduced to minimum 11 players. The scoreline could have been worse had it not been for the heroics of Cross keeper Laura Randall.
