RUNNERS from Worcester Athletic Club took part in the third round of the Birmingham and District Cross Country competition.
The club hosted this particular race at Malvern and a snow storm an hour before the start made for a very testing course.
This, however, did not daunt 17-year-old Sam Mitchell, the club's youngest member, who won the race in a little over 36 minutes.
Making up the rest of the 'A' team were Ivan Pawlk (8th), Stefan Sternkopf (20th), Mark Hill (24th), Laurence Fowkes (25th) and Andrew Wire (31st).
This ensured that the team won the event and, after three races, were still in first place overall -- some 100 points ahead of the rest. The 'B' team also comprehensively won their race.
Dave O'Brien (40th), Andrew Peach (48th), Dave Waldron (59th), Mark Bayliss (71st), Phil Bullock (80th), Nick Southam (82nd), Mick Monaghon (94th), Dave Hibbit (112th) and Terry Beddington (113th) all performed well.
The final race of the season will be held in February at Solihull and should see the club promoted as the league champions.
Worcester AC welcomes any new runners. They meet at Nunnery Wood Sports Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.
