WITH reference to the recent cutting down of the healthy tree in Salters Shopping Centre in Droitwich.
I was appalled by this act of 'vandalism'. This was a beautiful tree, and a feature which I personally admired when shopping. I cannot believe that this pedestrian area of town is going to be further developed. Surely it is desirable to have some open areas and outdoor seating, and it is not so long ago that this area of town was revamped anyway.
What a waste of money, if the raised area is now to be flattened. It adds a bit of visual interest.
A recent article in the Advertiser/Messenger states that a caf is to be built on the site. Droitwich does not need another caf. There are already at least five cafes in town which I can think of, and for a town the size of Droitwich that is more than enough.
I do not have a problem with the current development of the Argos store site, as that corner of the shopping centre was an eyesore as it was, but I feel strongly that the open area where the tree was, should be left well alone.
