THE speaker at the January meeting was Sheila Spence. Her talk, entitled Mushroom Magic - The Toadstool Trail, was most informative with excellent slides to illustrate the many types of fungi. The myths and legends surrounding fungi identification were explained.
A great many mushroom and fungi found in Britain are good to eat, although some must be cooked first. Sheila Spence gave a final warning that any mushrooms found in the wild should be identified by an expert. The evening had begun with president Barbara Maskell welcoming everyone to the meeting and wishing them all a happy New Year.
The New Year dinner on Saturday, January 28, will be held in the village hall starting at 7 for 7.30pm.
The venue for the lunch club's meeting on Tuesday, February 7, will be announced later.
Christine Hickman-Smith announced a series of craft evenings starting on Wednesday, January 25, in the village hall and running from 7.30-9.30pm. Members are asked to contact Christine if they wish to attend. Further dates are available. The next meeting will be held on February 1 in the village hall at 7.30pm.
