VICTIMS of the Holocaust and more recent horrors against humanity will be remembered in Bromsgrove later this month.
Bromsgrove District Council is one of many local authorities throughout the country, together with numerous organisations and individuals, which will be marking Holocaust Memorial Day. This year, arrangements have been made for the sixth Holocaust Memorial Day to be held at Sanders Park, Bromsgrove, on Friday, January 27, at 10.30am.
The theme for this year's day is One Person Can Make A Difference.
During the Holocaust the Nazis tried to wipe out the Jewish race. More than six million Jews were murdered before victory in World War Two brought the killing to an end. At the time everyone had to make a choice - to become a perpetrator, a bystander or to help those being persecuted. A small minority chose to help the victims of the Nazis, risking their own lives and the lives of their families. Individuals who make moral choices and act upon them can and do make a difference.
District council chairman Jill Dyer (Con-Drakes Cross and Walkers Heath) said: "Please come along and join us in remembering the victims of the Holocaust and to reflect upon those affected by more recent atrocities.
"The Holocaust Memorial Day is about both the past and present. It is about commemorating and continuing to learn from the events of the Holocaust and about relating those lessons to the ever-changing world around us.
"It is important that we ensure crimes against humanity committed during the Holocaust are never forgotten and that its relevance is understood."
