A ROADS and transport survey to highlight the problems in Stoke has been put together.

The survey was sent to 2,000 households in the parish.

It aimed to identify any problems which Stoke Parish Council's road and transport working group may have overlooked, as well as set a benchmark for current opinions in the area.

Twenty-seven residents responded from all over Stoke, although a quarter of the respondents lived in Hanbury Road. As well as telling the parish council their concerns, residents also gave suggested improvements to issues.

Overall, residents said they were concerned about excessive speeding and industrial traffic with 80 per cent of people saying these problems regularly frustrated them.

Other issues raised included parking, unsafe pathways and poor road signs.

Fifteen of the respondents also raised concerns about speeding in Hanbury Road and Shaw Lane, especially at dangerous points. Concerns also highlighted were heavy and wide vehicles travelling too fast.

Industrial traffic was a problem, many raised concerns associated with HGVs being unable to pass under the low railway bridges in Hanbury Road and Shaw Lane.

Some residents highlighted the risk of walking along the poorly maintained pathway in Hanbury Road. Two people said the overgrown foliage in Buntsford Hill, Stoke Heath, made it difficult to walk along the road.

Several respondents raised concerns about inadequate parking in Ryefields Road and at Hanbury Turn. Some people also said there were problems in Redditch Road and Shaw Lane.

The results of the survey will now be used to help form a policy statement and action plan for the parish council.

Discussions with organisations such as Bromsgrove Highways Partnership, the county council highways department and local employers, will also be held.
