WARD Five at the Alexandra Hospital has been inundated with visitors over the last two weeks - all to see one very popular patient.
David Chart has received more than 120 bedside visits since he was admitted to the Alex following a fall at his home in Gorsey Close, Astwood Bank.
The 42 year old, who has to use a wheelchair, is an active member of St Peter's Church congregation and works closely with some of the town's teenagers. He has also organised live music events for the Redditch youth groups.
Mr Chart said: "I live alone and had a fall in my bathroom getting to the shower.
''It was two days before anyone found me because I couldn't reach my alarm button. I just had to lie there.''
He added: "My friends at the church alerted my brother that there might be cause for concern after I failed to show up at a church meeting.
''The police had to break into my house. Then the ambulance was called and I was taken to hospital."
Mr Chart is now on the mend and is due to be transferred to the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove this week for rehabilitation.
"I have been visited by so many people, I have lost track,'' said Mr Chart.
''It's mainly family and friends from the church but also a few of the young people I have worked with.
"All the visitors have certainly been keeping me on my toes!"
Friend Heather Berry said: "He is a very community-orientated man. I think he is so popular because he is such a positive person."
