A REDDITCH road was blocked for more than four hours after a trailer loaded with a train carriage came adrift from the haulage vehicle towing it.
Police were called to the obstruction on the A441 Redditch to Alvechurch road at 11.30am on Friday. The road was blocked until 4pm, causing severe congestion on nearby roads including Dagnell End Road and the A441 towards Alvechurch and the M42 island.
Pc Paul Downes, from north Worcestershire policing unit, said: "Fortunately no-one was injured as a result of this incident but with the size and weight of the load it certainly had the potential for far more serious consequences.
"We know the vehicle, which was heading for Wales, left the haulage depot in Studley earlier that morning and was travelling through Redditch on the way to the motorway. A load this size is likely to have been noticed by other road users and we are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle between these points to give us a call."
Officials from the Ministry of Transport and police are expected to meet next week in connection with the incident.
