MOTORISTS using a bus lane or talking on their mobile phone while driving were issued with fixed penalty notices during a police crackdown on such offences.
Officers from West Mercia's road policing unit handed out seven fixed penalty notices to motorists failing to comply with the law during a special operation in Easemore Road on January 6 and 9.
They used the Automated Number Plate Recognition vehicle to help them.
Sgt Mark Layton, from the unit, said: "We carried out the operation in response to residents concerns over the volume of traffic using Easemore Road, particularly at speed or with engines revving excessively.
"Over the two days, we issued a total of seven fixed penalty notices, mostly for the use of mobile phones by motorists or the failure to wear a seatbelt.
"The notices were also issued to motorists using the bus lane in Easemore Road. Clearly this is a dangerous practice with road safety implications and it cannot be tolerated.
"Many other drivers were also asked to produce their documents for other motoring offences or defects to their vehicles."
Further operations are planned for Easemore Road.
