A WOMAN who has always been a keen recycler says she is furious that her green wheelie bin for recyclable waste was not emptied when the dustcart came round.

Cheryl Malcolm, of Astwood Road, Tolladine, Worcester, said all of her waste could not fit into her wheelie bin so she put it into special recyclable plastic bags of the type used for collections before wheelie bins were introduced.

Households have been told that collection teams will only collect the waste that is in the black and green bins - not in plastic bags.

But what annoys Mrs Malcolm is that the wheelie bin was not emptied either. She said it would have been easy enough for the collectors to first empty the wheelie bin and then put the contents of the plastic bags into the bin, which then could have again been emptied into the vans.

Mrs Malcolm, aged 53, said: "When my husband called the council to complain, they said that any excess waste would have to be taken to the tip ourselves.

"Why should we have to take the waste to the tip? It's the binmen's job to do that.

Mrs Malcolm added that she recognised the importance of recycling, saying: "Everything is recycled in my house. I have always done it."

Mike Harrison, Worcester city council's head of environmental services, said: "It should have been emptied out. We have had a couple of bad weeks.

"With so much waste to be collected it's possible that some properties may have been missed out."
