WORCESTER badminton ace Simon Archer says he is "95 per cent certain" this week's Yonex All England Championship at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham will be his last.
The 31-year-old, who famously won an Olympic mixed doubles bronze medal with Jo Goode in 2000, has been hampered by a serious injury to his right knee in recent years.
He said: "I am 95 per cent sure this will be my last appearance at the All Englands, but I will make my final decision after the World Championships in September.
"The All England Championship is my favourite tournament so it is a difficult decision, but this is my 15th season and I have had a lot of injuries in the last few years.
"It is difficult to keep going when my body hurts every day."
At the All Englands, which get underway tomorrow, Archer plans to compete in both the men's and mixed doubles.
He will join up with David Lindley in the men's and form a new partnership with Ella Tripp for the mixed.
Archer has had a glittering career, including Commonwealth and European gold medals, plus silver and bronze medals in the World Championships, not to mention 15 English national doubles titles.
His bronze in Sydney was Britain's first Olympic badminton medal.
