SIR - The city council's Worcester Waterfront Lottery bid is very welcome, not least because it includes many of the features of the Worcester H2OOO Millennium Lottery bid made by the last Lib Dem-led administration at County Hall. However, one aspect gives me cause for concern. Some of the Newport Street car park has already gone for housing. If the Croft Road car park is at last to be given over to riverside gardens, if the Cattle Market car park becomes a civic square, and if the Copenhagen Street car park is similarly beautified, it could entail a significant drop in revenue for the city council. Ironically, if this bid to improve the city is successful, Worcester citizens may be asked to accept a new multi-storey car park within sight of the Cathedral, just to make the sums add up.
