SIR - To your recent correspondents, Jennifer Lloyd et al, I wholeheartedly agree that we all should be responsible for sorting our refuse into the requisite grades for recycling.
But to those who are supporting the wheelie bin, I would point out that Wychavon council surpasses Worcester council in percentage terms for recycling without resorting to those bins.
Second, was it not this council that some years back, rejected - yes rejected - the use of these bins. Also, have you considered the quantity of oil and water, now wasted, that goes into the production of each bin?
Have you considered the cost in £s out of your pocket (council tax) that is being spent on this pursuit of avoiding a fine on the city? It is in excess of £1m, a sum that would be better spent elsewhere.
JOHN W PEDLEY,
Worcester.
