A NEW website is set to hit the information superhighway showing Worcestershire residents the work being done across the county to prepare for an emergency.

The site gives information on what people should do in the event of emergencies, such as a pandemic, large-scale road accident or flood.

Set up by Worcestershire Emergency Planning Unit, the site also tells viewers what the unit and its partners do to protect residents.

Details of the latest updates on national requirements and legislation when it comes to planning for emergencies are also contained on the site.

Emergency planning manager Dr John Asquith said: "Planning for emergencies is something that's come to the fore in recent months with high-profile events hitting the headlines.

"Although we like to think the worst will never happen, my team has been working closely with key partners throughout the county to ensure every eventuality is considered."

"The website is an effective way of giving people information that can affect the way they react if they are caught up in an emergency and as such is an invaluable tool in our work.

"We would urge people to regularly check the site to ensure they have the most up-to-date advice."

The emergency planning unit and all six district councils within the county have signed up to a memorandum of understanding under which a small team of emergency planners at the county council support them and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Other agencies that work with the team include the Environment Agency on flooding and pollution, the emergency services, the county coroner and also health authorities.
