POSITIVE people who are good at listening are being invited to volunteer to help a Worcester-based charity that supports disadvantaged people.
Onside Independent Advocacy helps more than 1,500 people with learning disabilities, mental illness, physical disabilities, physical ill health, sensory disabilities and old age, every year, across South Worcestershire.
Nearly 70 volunteers act as partners to the service users, helping them obtain information and learn their rights and responsibilities, as well as assisting them in making decisions and becoming more included in the community.
But more - of all ages and backgrounds - are needed as the charity, based in Charles Street, off City Walls Road, expands.
Tracy Hodgkins, who has spina bifida and hydrocephalus, took part in the latest volunteer training programme, which consisted of four three-hour sessions.
The St Clements Gardens resident said it has boosted her confidence enormously.
"I have always been the one who needs help so it's fantastic to be able to give something back," she added.
"And I am in a unique position to offer support to people with physical disabilities as I have experienced it myself. I'd recommend volunteering to anyone." she said.
Jackie Murrall, volunteer co-ordinator, said anyone who is non-judgmental, discreet, tolerant, positive and a good listener would be an asset to the team. "We are very flexible and can accommodate most people.
"Our current volunteers range in age from 19 to those in their 80s. We would love anyone who is interested to get in touch for more details."
